Volunteer Program

As one of the only play-based pediatric therapy clinics in Hawai’i, Sprouts Therapy provides a fun and unique setting for offering occupational, speech, physical, and feeding therapy on the island of O’ahu. We encourage and welcome students and volunteers to share their time with us as they pursue their studies and future careers in related fields.

For students interested in OT, PT, speech, or feeding therapy, and for anyone looking for volunteer hours, we offer opportunities to earn observation hours toward class, graduate school, or program requirements.

A few things to know before reaching out:

  • Volunteering is hands-on clinic support, not a dedicated shadowing program. You'll regularly observe our therapists at work, but we can't guarantee time with one specific therapist or discipline.
  • Volunteer responsibilities include setting up and cleaning up for feeding therapy, special projects, tidying the clinic, vacuuming, and helping therapists move equipment.
  • Already enrolled in an OT or PT graduate program and looking for a fieldwork placement or clinical rotation? Visit our Fieldwork & Clinical Rotations page.

Volunteer requirements

  1.  Commitment: We ask volunteers to commit to at least 40 hours of volunteering.
  2. TB test: You'll need a TB test completed within the past year before you can start (see testing info below).
  3. Orientation: All volunteers attend a one-time orientation, about one hour, typically held on a weekday. If you can't make a scheduled session, we'll work with you to arrange another time.
  4. Shifts: Shifts run in 3-hour blocks, so you see a variety of clients; longer shifts are welcome.
  5. Scheduling: Volunteers manage their own schedules. You'll sign up for shifts and check in and out through our scheduling app.
  6. Age: Volunteers must be at least 16 years old; volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian consent form. Saturday shifts are 18+.
  7. Waitlist: Our program is small and frequently full, so new volunteers typically start from a waitlist. We'll reach out as soon as a spot opens.

If this sounds like something you can commit to, please email us at info@sproutstherapy.com with your first and last name and your phone number, and we'll add you to the volunteer waitlist!

Getting your TB test:

We recommend visiting Oahu's primary TB Testing Location at Lanakila Health Center to start your TB clearance. You will get pricked and will need to return to the center after a few days to receive a letter stating you are cleared. For more information, click here.
